Reservation should be based on financial position rather than on caste. There are many needy in upper caste also. One who deserves, should get the opportunity. Reservation should be to ensure right quality of education to deprived rather than to any particular caste. Caste based reservation only divides. Giving reservation tom privileged SC/ST means depriving the real needier.

Reservation based on caste is a blunt instrument, but it is needed in the absence of alternatives built by the government. Our government should ideally build policies to include people from all castes of society [that is what affirmative action in developed world looks like] in jobs and education. However, the governments are too lazy to do that and resort to the quota system.

The quota and reservation system in India needs a complete overhaul. If equality is the objective, we do not have space for reservations and lax standards in the name of supporting castes and religions. The youth of India need support.

Reservation system aims to uplift the lower sections of society which, through the ages, have been exploited and deprived of rights and basic amenities. By providing these minorities reservations in government jobs and colleges, they are supposed to become a part of mainstream society and, as a result, it is expected that people will start accepting them. But recent events and today's political scenario have raised a big question on the existing reservation system in India. Have the current parameters of reservation become outdated and shallow? Is the current reservation system upholding inequality of rights of citizens on the basis of their ancestry?

Reservations in India were brought primarily with the objective of providing opportunities and better living standards for weaker and under privileged sections of the society. Dr. B R Ambedkar fought for bringing reservation system into Indian constitution to help economically various caste people who were unable to have sufficient opportunities to grow.
